Resin is not just a fancy word for average plastic. It is a composite blend, which is rotationally molded into strong and pliable products that can mimic the look of stone and metal materials at a more affordable cost and a fraction of the weight.
Plastic can be made into millions of things, so in order to distinguish our resin from other plastic or other types of resins, we need to understand the similarities and differences.
Grocery bags are made of plastic, but they are thin and weak.
A garden planter from your local hardware store is a type of resin made from a high-density polyethylene, which is lightweight and easily damaged. It is resin, but that is where the similarities end. Your plastic garden planter will eventually succumb to the effects of weathering, becoming brittle and cracking.
The process we use is called Rotational Molding. Our product is a Linear Low Density Polyethylene, or LLDPE, which is not just plastic. It’s a true Resin blend that begins as a powder, which we liquefy by superheating it, pouring it into a mold, and cooked slowly as it rotates in its mold.
This formula and method gives it a much more durable form along with the elasticity needed to prevent breaking, cracking or shattering.
The products we make using our resin are designed and manufactured to withstand all kinds of wear and tear, weather and abuse.
Consider the garbage bins kept outside of your home and how much abuse they take from various items filling them, being tossed around once emptied and even vehicles hitting them. They may bend and absorb any impact they sustain, but they do not break.
Our Resin is specially formulated and designed to be indestructible no matter what the abuse. They are also blended with UV-12 inhibitors to provide a lifetime of vibrant color.
Our resin doesn’t break or stain so you won’t need to provide regular maintenance as you would with stone or metal. In fact, you would have a hard time getting paint to stay on it because it’s actually graffiti resistant. Any paint or other stains are easily wiped away with a brush and over-the-counter cleaner. In extreme cases, a pressure cleaner will take off the unwanted marks.
Resin is non-porous & non-hydroscopic, so it’s impervious to water damage and keeps outside elements from the inside of the product, preventing leaks, rust and discoloration.
Our Resin is very flexible and can be made into any shape, size, and color. Resin is a very forgiving substance that absorbs impact and returns to its original molded shape where other products would break or become damaged.
We currently offer planters in 20 different standard colors but can also create any custom colors or match others.
We also have several proprietary textured blends that are designed to look and feel like granite while being 90% lighter and a fraction of the cost of stone.
TerraCast Resin planter pots are easily shipped and transportable. Minimally, 1 person can maneuver our larger sized planters, eliminating the need for any type of moving equipment. Two people can unload your products off of the delivery truck, saving money on shipping, delivery and installation. Once installed, and filled with soil and plants, they’re heavy enough to stay in place. Our lightweight products are today’s solution for cumbersome and heavy city-scape installations.
The resin we use is composed largely of recycled material, making Terracast® products recyclable. Our facilities can return an item back to its powdered base and re-make it into the next planter or lamppost.
Our darker colors are made from up to 100% post-consumer recycled materials, qualifying them for LEED points and credits.
Though we progress into a more environmentally conscious, green society, Terracast® has been “Green” for 30 years.

Put the hose on it. If there’s an ordinary mess on your product, like bird droppings, rusty sprinkler water or other residues, or food or other organic substance, any cleaner for plastic is fine. Mister Clean Magic Eraser works well, as does Goo Gone, Marine Spray 9, or Citrus Power. For extraordinary or synthetic issues, such as gum or paint, use a power cleaner or pressure washer.
